Events

Goodwood see www.goodwood.com. Between March and December there are events taking place on the Goodwood Estate whether it is the two world famous Motor Sport Events and The Glorious Goodwood Horseracing Festival, or an antiques fair, sheepdog trials or corporate event in The House. Goodwood House is the backdrop for one of the most significant private art collections in the U.K.

Cowdray Park Polo is played locally at Cowdray Park, Midhurst, where visitors are always welcome. There is polo every weekend (and some weekdays) throughout the polo season which opens in late April and closes at the end of September.

With a long and illustrious history, the polo club celebrated its centenary in 2010. Cowdray Park is the venue for the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup, the most coveted trophy in polo, played for every July to decide the winners of the British Open Polo Championship.  www.cowdraypolo.co.uk

Walking The South Downs Way. see www.nationaltrail.co.uk/Southdowns. Hookwood is 3 miles from the path so you can easily be picked up from Bignor or Sutton to stay the night at Hookwood.

Haredown Mountain Boarding Centre www.haredown.com is a great place for young people to let off steam

X-Train Watersports Tuition www.x-train.co.uk at West Wittering Beach. Even if you don't want to kitesurf or windsurf. West Wittering is a wonderful beach to visit in summer or winter, with miles to walk when the tide is out and dunes to sit in whilst eating your picnic.

Pheasant Shooting and Fox-hunting can be arranged with prior notice.

Petworth House and Park www.nationaltrust.org.uk Petworth House dominates the village of Petworth and is well worth a visit, particularly to the vast kitchens and the Capability Brown designed Park of 700 acres with its heard of Fallow Deer.
